Flooding

Description

Causes of flooding : heavy rainfall, a burst water main, sewer backup, or rising water levels—whether during the spring snowmelt or at other times in winter. A rapid and significant rise in water levels may also occur in the event of a dam failure.
The risk of flooding is particularly high along the shores of Lac des Deux Montagnes and the Rivière des Prairies. Certain neighborhoods on the Island of Montréal are also more vulnerable to flooding, as water tends to accumulate more easily in these areas.

Help and resources

Are you experiencing difficulties or distress?

  • Contact Info-Social by dialing 811 and selecting option 2. The service is free, confidential, and available at all times. Psychosocial intervention professionals are available to support you, provide guidance, and direct you to resources tailored to your needs or those of your loved ones.
  • Montréal healthcare institutions also offer psychosocial support services to residents in flooded areas who require assistance. This support is available during the crisis as well as in the weeks following the disaster, when psychosocial needs may be significant (e.g., upon returning home and facing material losses).
